bretforton amateur dramatics

Audition and Read Through dates

BAD Theatre are to stage Allo Allo on the 18th to the 20th June this year. The play is to be directed by Dan Shipman-Toon who you may remember as the dodgy butler in Whodunnit!

There will be an informal read through of the play on Monday the 24th January at 8 pm in the Fleece Barn. Everyone is invited to join us, it will be a fun evening, an opportunity to have a go at reading a part even if you dont want to go on stage. Its also a great opportunity to meet the Director and the rest of the group. This is not an audition though its just for fun.

Auditions
These are to take place at 6 Gras Close, Bretforton on the 26th and 27th February from 7.30pm. The audition parts and a synopsis of the play  are set out below:
Picture
                    PLAY SYNOPSIS
Based upon the hit television show of the same name 'Allo 'Allo follows the war-time struggle of René Artois, the hapless Café owner of Café René as he tries to save his own bacon during the Nazi occupation. In doing so he must deal with his wife Edith's glorious cabaret whilst keeping a multitude of secrets from her, the Nazis, the gestapo and even the Führer!

Not all, as you may have guessed, goes to plan - it's tricky when you have a priceless painting (the one of the fallen madonna with the big boobies by Van Klomp) in a sausage in your basement, two British airmen hiding in your cafe for the French Resistance, a hapless British 'poloceman' and two saucy affairs with his young waitresses!

All of which is more than enough to be going on with, but the whole charade comes to a head when it is announced none other than the Führer himself is coming to visit; Does René side with the resistance to try and assassinate him?
Does he help the Nazis smuggle the aforementioned painting (of the Fallen Madonna with the big boobies by Van Klomp)? Or does he utilise the opportunity escape war-torn France with the painting himself and live out his days in the Swiss Alps?
Who knows, but one thing can be certain - you must listen carefully,
we shall say this only once!

Audition pieces

 The French
Rene - Male - 30-50 years of age - Large part
The Cafe owner and main character of the play. He is dry with his humour and able to 'turn on the charm' when required. French accent required!
Edith - Female - 30-50 years of age - Small part
The wife of poor old Rene. She runs the cafe with him, enjoys singing delightful (read poorly sung) cabaret and of course giving Rene a hard time.
Yvette/ Mimi - Female - 20-40 years of age - not a problem if not within this age bracket - Medium
Yvette and Mimi are the waitresses of Cafe Rene, they are also both - unbeknownst to eachother - having an affair with Rene.
Leclerc - Male or Female - Any age - Small
The hapless informant and liaison between the French Resistance and Rene - bungling idiot character, must be able to say "It is I, Leclerc"
Michelle - Female - Any Age - Has to be comfortable flashing a bit of thigh on stage - if not we can potentially work something out. - Medium
The leader of the resistance and she will say it only once! She is a woman of mystery, intrigue and a long grey trenchcoat. Must be able to flit between French and British accents comfortably.
The Piano Player and Peasants - any age, any gender - Small
The general occupants of cafe Rene when there are no Germans who require their seats! Little or no lines in the script, but some can/will be written for those who want them
 Ze Germans (Und Italian)
Colonel Von Strohm - Male or Female - 50+ years of age - Medium
The Colonel of the occupying German Forces. His sole focus is ensuring that he will be financially secure after the war - by way of the painting of the Fallen Madonna with the big boobies. Needs to be authoritative and brash.
Captain Alberto Bertorelli - Male - 20+ years of age - Medium
The italian captain has a flair for the dramatic and is very much a ladies man (or so he thinks of himself...). Flamboyant and hilariously poor Italian accents requested!
Herr Otto Flick - Male - 20+ years of age - Medium
Herr Flick is a member of the Gestapo. He is quiet, composed, Aryan. In love with his assistant Helga. He will not be disobeyed!
Helga - Female - 20+ years of age - Potential requirement for stockings and suspenders to be worn on stage (it will be summer, worry not!) or at least confidence to perform what looks like a strip-tease in silhouette! - Medium
Helga is very loud. Very German. Very scary. She is the assistant to Mr Flick, also his lover. She will stop at nothing to ensure that Herr Flick is happy, especially if it means killing some peasants.
Lieutenant Gruber - Male - 20+ years of age - Mediujm
Gruber is the gay Nazi Lieutenant. Or at least, circumstances lead him down this path. It's very lonely on the Russian Front you know... He believes that Rene is flirting with him, Rene is not so sure that he is welcoming of the Lieutenant's advances...! German Camp-ness a must!
General Von Schmelling - Male or Female - 40+ Years of age - Small/Medium
General Von Schmelling is the German tasked with ensuring that the Fuhrer's visit to the region goes well. He delights in nothing more than bossing people around and, if needs must, killing a few peasants.
 The British
Crabtree - any gender - any age - Medium
Hapless British 'intelligence' officer who is anything but. He believes whole-heartedly that he can speak in a flawless French accent, but what actually comes out is essentially gibberish. No accent ability required :)
The Airmen - any gender - any age - Small
The Airmen are your typical English flying aces - Tally Ho! Put the Kettle On! Beat the Jerrys! kind of guys. They are being hidden by Rene until their safe return to Britain has been organised by Michelle and the Resistance.

Drama group hits the road running!

The inaugural meeting of BADS the Bretforton amateur dramatics society got under way at the Fleece Barn on Thursday February 21st. The meeting was really well attended with a wide spread of people from the Village. The meeting was chaired by Alice Heather who's brain child this was. She put on display a wide range of shows she had been involved in explaining she had done most things from acting, directing through all the back stage disciplines. It was felt the first show the society should be aiming for should be something light hearted to get everyone in the swing of how it would all work and to ensure a good audience.

The next meeting has been set for the 5th March at 7,30 pm again in the barn. The minutes from the meeting are set out below. Everyone is welcome at the next meeting there's lost to get involved with.
