Bretforton Remembers – 100 Years On
The memorial plaque in St Leonard’s church, Bretforton, records 29 names of Bretforton men who served and died in World War One. In January 2018, Bretforton History Group began researching these men, in this the centenary year of the Armistice. In doing so, the Group has learnt there were more Bretforton men who died – such as Leonard Knight – but for whatever reason, were not remembered on the village’s memorial plaques (located in St Leonard’s church, on the front of Bretforton Memorial Hall, and on the wall in Bretforton Village School hall). A folder of information has been compiled about each of the Bretforton men – and women – who served in World War One, including those who survived. If you would like to view these, or have further information to share about Bretforton during WW1, particularly photographs of those who are represented in the church display by only their regimental cap badges – we would be interested to hear from you.

Bretforton History Group
Whilst the group is currently inactive, in 2018 it carried out research on those of the village who lost their lives in the Great War
The focus this year is Bretforton in 1910 -1920. Initial research has begun into those villagers who were in active service in WW1. We would love to hear from anyone who has memorabilia, photographs, medals etc in connection with the names listed below. We would like to produce something to mark Armistice Day 2018. Ideas and suggestions welcomed.
